I was lucky to find Cherokee at a time in my life when I felt unwanted. Everyone I met there changed my life FOREVER!!! Not only was the home a stepping stone, it was a spring-board to my dreams. I have a beautiful family and my own business. So many of my dreams came true because of the love I received while I was there. I was in Cottage 1 when James & Deanna Grantham were house parents, late '82-83 and would love to hear from anyone!! Living in beautiful Denver Colorado. Cherokee will always be my home. Comments: My brothers & I were there from 1977-1980. Our particular house parents were not nice but I don't blame CHFC. Outside of the house I remember other house parents who were nice and all of the children so very fondly. We had nicknames as another alumni mentioned: mine was Witch because I apparently cackled instead of laughed ;-), one brother was Martian and I think it had something to do with the way his hair would stick up in the morning looking like antennae, the other brother was Corn Head because he had a very lumpy head (hahahahahahhaa). Anyway, I know the people there truly cared even if our house parents weren't good to us. I don't believe that would happen there today.

Formerly known as Robert Wayne Allbritton. Stayed in Cottage #3 with Shoni & Phil Castaneda from 1975-1981. Other kids in my house were Lucy Mendoza, Leo Briseno, Vadis, Joel, my brother & sister, Melissa, and Shannon Castaneda. I remember the trampoline, the pool, mowing, raising a pig, riding the bus to church, making 50 cents a week allowance, chasing armadillos, and lots and lots of chores. Jack Goble was the Superintendent. I hung out with Lito Lopez (remember the scar on his lip) and his brother Victor. I remember my teachers, Mrs. Light, Mrs. Snow, Mr. Perry (hurt my rear when he paddled me)& coach Maddox. I loved Sandy Randolph (she didn't know it)and her friend was Christy Parrish, then there was Phil Cavness, Roy McCown, Shane Alexander. I could go on and on. Email me if you remember me.

I lived in the children’s home back in the 90's.  I had great experiences and learned a lot while I was there.  Now that I’m older I have two wonderful kids of my own and am in the process of adopting another child. I’m a certified nurse’s aide and have been for nine years and enjoy it very much. It’s nice to give back the love and generosity that was given to me.
